Dont listen to bad reviews!!!!

Ive been playing this game for going on 3 months now and have only spent MAYBE $20. You dont have to have money to be "good" at it. I bought a couple elite accounts and one gem booster pack. They actually match you with people somewhat close to your level (they have endless lists to choose your target from). They MAIN things people spend money on is the dragons. (I.E. Darja is 17,500 rubies). You dont have to buy rubies I didnt. I only saved through maybe 4 events. They key to playing at a top level on this game and not spending Miney is find a good team!! Attack a lot, and rank high in events! Then you can be awesome at this game!
